Bill Childs
Hometown: Southern Pines, NC
Bill Childs has been playing poker for about as long as he can remember. As a young man, he served our country in the Air Force and as a police officer. One day when he went to purchase a car, the manager was stricken by his confidence, negotiating skills and personality and offered him a job on the spot. His career in the automobile business was born. Bill quickly rose up the ranks and went on to manage and own several automobile dealerships throughout the country, employing innovative marketing strategies and stellar business acumen to catapult struggling operations to national prominence.
Now retired, Bill has turned his creativity and competitive passions towards tournament poker. His first splash on the tournament scene came as the most talked about and beloved railbird of the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event as he supported his son, Team PPI Elite member Lee Childs, every step of the way through the final table. In June of 2007, Bill switched roles with his son and with Lee on the rail; he took down a $1K Venetian Deep Stack tournament for over $60,000.
Bill resides in Southern Pines, NC and is always the consummate gentleman at the poker table. With his determination and drive for success, we expect to see Bill have many deep runs and final tables in 2009 and beyond.
